Dr. Ohms works in the field of administrative law of commerce and the associated fields of civil law, e.g. public liability and compensation law, and penal law. On the basis of many years of  consulting experience for industrial and commercial companies as well as for private persons within the context of major projects, special permits or planning approval procedures, he has specialized in environmental, energy and climate protection law with its technical and scientific facets. This includes in particular the areas of immission control, nature conservation, water protection and water resources management, excavations and mining law, approval procedures for infrastructure projects, industrial and commercial plants, environmental management, climate protection (emission trading, flexible mechanisms and renewable energies).

His consulting experience ranges from project planning, legal and strategic advice in administrative procedures and contract negotiations, representation before the administrative courts, the European Court of Justice and the courts of civil jurisdiction to environmental management and representation of interests in legislative practice. Due to decades of experience in legislative procedures, large-scale projects and cooperation with various faculties in the field of environmental and energy law, Dr. Ohms has the expertise to identify and accompany solutions even in complex critical situations.

Furthermore, he is involved in various expert committees as well as in the legal training of engineers, scientists and lawyers. He is lecturer at the SRH University Heidelberg, the author of the »Praxishandbuchs Immissionsschutzrecht« (Guide to Immission Control Law) published by Nomos Verlag and the handbook »Recht der Erneuerbaren Energien« (Renewable Energy Law) published by Beck Verlag, In addition, he is co-author of »Immissionsschutzrecht und Industrieanlagen, 3. Auflage« (Immission Control Law and industrial plants, 3rd edition) by Sellner/Reidt/Ohms, co-author of the standard commentary on environmental law by Landmann/Rohmer (both Beck-Verlag) as well as the Berlin Commentary of Energy Law (publisher: Säcker) and Berlin Commentary of Federal Immission Control Act (publisher: Appel/Ohms/Saurer).
